The Saga of Seaside Inn is an extensive side quest that begins in Chapter 7 of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, but you won’t be able to complete it until you reach Chapter 9. This quest revolves around Johnny’s adventure, where players need to find ziplines, create a boiler valve, and steal a Tonberry King’s Crown. Below is a detailed walkthrough of The Saga of Seaside Inn, including the rewards for completing it.

Starting The Saga of Seaside Inn

To initiate The Saga of Seaside Inn, you must progress to Chapter 7, which begins right after the beach events in Costa Del Sol. The chapter starts when you change into Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith’s swimwear.

During Chapter 7, you will engage in various minigames such as Card Carnival and search for hidden Cactuars and Wheelie locations to earn Companion Cards, which are essential for purchasing swimwear. Once you are ready, you can start Johnny’s quest by speaking to him at his hotel or by checking the noticeboard in Costa Del Sol. He will explain his predicament, and you will then need to travel to Corel to begin your first task.

Recovering the Refurbishment Materials

Your first objective in The Saga of Seaside Inn is to recover lost refurbishment materials for Johnny and his companion at Costa Falls. There are eight possible refurbishment material locations located at the tops of ziplines in Corel, but you only need to collect four to move the quest forward. However, locating all eight will grant you a three-star subquest completion rating, which slightly alters some dialogue later on.

Checking the Republic-Era Factory

Next, head to the Republic-Era factory located in the northern part of Corel to meet up with Johnny again. He and his companion wish to create a special boiler valve at the factory, but first, you need to locate two Lifesprings in this region to mark an Excavation Intel at the factory.

The Lifesprings are situated in the southern and southeastern areas of Corel. As you approach the Lifesprings, follow the springseeker owls to scan the crystals. Once the Excavation Intel is marked on your map, return to the Republic-Era factory and summon your Chocobo to help locate the transmuter chip needed for the boiler valve.

Making the Boiler Valve

Once you have the recipe, it’s time to craft the boiler valve. You will need the following materials:

• x2 Iron Ore
• x2 Zinc Ore
• x2 Amethyst

These materials can be gathered in the Corel region by collecting mineral deposits (indicated by a bangle-like symbol). The best spot for farming Zinc Ore, Amethyst, and Iron Ore is on Mount Corel. While you might find some materials in the first beach area of Corel, the mountain provides a more reliable source.

It is advisable to continue the story up Mount Corel if you haven’t done so, as you will need to proceed this way to complete the next part of Johnny’s quest.

Stealing and Delivering the Tonberry King’s Crown

The final part of The Saga of Seaside Inn requires you to continue the main storyline, as you can only access the Tonberry King’s location in Chapter 9 after your first visit to the Gold Saucer.

Here’s how to steal and deliver the Tonberry King’s Crown:

1. Reach the new open area in Corel during Chapter 9.
2. Locate and scan the four Lifesprings in this new Corel region.
3. Go to the newly marked ‘Classified Intel: Heavy Lies the Crown’ location.
4. Equip a party member with the Steal Materia (Yuffie has this by default).
5. Summon the Tonberry King and use Pressure to make it drop its Pristine Crown.
6. Activate the Steal ability on the Pristine Crown to acquire it.
7. Defeat the Tonberry King to successfully obtain the Crown.

If you accidentally defeat the Tonberry King without stealing the Pristine Crown, you will receive the Marred Crown instead. While it doesn’t significantly affect the outcome, the Pristine Crown looks much nicer on Johnny’s desk, and he will be pleased to receive it.

After reporting back to Johnny at his hotel, you will finally conclude The Saga of Seaside Inn!
