Pokémon Go Ditto disguises in September 2024 for helping catch the transform Pokémon
Ditto – commonly referred to as the transform Pokémon – is one of the more elusive creatures in Pokémon Go, primarily due to its unique ability to disguise itself as other Pokémon. In the main series games, this purple blob only knows one move – Transform – which allows it to mimic the appearance and moveset of its opponent. This feature is similarly represented in Pokémon Go.
The Ditto disguises in Pokémon Go can vary, making it essential to stay informed about which Pokémon Ditto is currently impersonating if you wish to find one, especially if you’re aiming to add a shiny Ditto to your collection.
Understanding Ditto and How to Catch It
Unlike typical Pokémon, Ditto does not appear in its true form while exploring the wild. Instead, Ditto takes on the appearance of various other Pokémon and only reveals its true identity once caught. This means you need to catch several Pokémon to discover if one is actually a Ditto.
When you capture a Pokémon that transforms into Ditto, it will be added to your Pokémon Bag like any other creature. You can then feed it Candy to evolve and use it in Gyms for battles.
Ditto can also be obtained through specific activities, such as certain Research Breakthroughs or special research quests.

Catching Shiny Ditto
Shiny Ditto was initially made available during special events and has since been accessible to all players in various ways. There are two critical rules for catching a shiny Ditto:
Rule One
If one of the Pokémon that can transform into Ditto appears in its shiny form when you attempt to catch it, this Pokémon will not turn into a Ditto. This rule ensures you won’t miss the chance to catch a shiny version of that Pokémon.
Rule Two
If you successfully find a Pokémon that turns into Ditto upon being caught, then there is a chance it will turn into a shiny Ditto. Thus, if you’re aiming for a shiny Ditto, keep catching the non-shiny versions of the listed Pokémon until you get lucky! The odds of encountering a shiny Ditto are better than many other Pokémon, estimated at around 1 in 64.
Additional Information About Ditto in Pokémon Go
- Ditto can appear in the wild for all players, and it is not just a common Pokémon that randomly transforms. If you catch one, other players nearby can encounter the same one too. Ditto can also be attracted through Lures or Incense.
- According to player experiences, when Ditto is taken into battle, it transforms into the opposing Pokémon and assumes their moves while retaining its own CP and stats. However, if two Dittos face each other, they will not transform and instead will use their only other move – Struggle.
- Ditto cannot be used in Trainer battles, including the Go Battle League or against Team Leaders.
- Ditto is classified as a Normal-type Pokémon and has no evolutions. Its Pokedex entry states: “Ditto rearranges its cell structure to transform itself into other shapes. However, if it tries to transform itself into something by relying on its memory, this Pokémon manages to get details wrong.”
- While Dittos are rare, you can catch multiple ones, as they have their own Candy for powering up.
- The walking distance for Ditto as a Buddy Pokémon is 3km, similar to various other Pokémon.
Good luck in your quest to catch Ditto in Pokémon Go!
