Shiny Popplio, evolution chart, 100% perfect IV stats, and Primarina’s best moveset in Pokémon Go

If you’re a fan of sea lions, you’re in luck! This month features Popplio Community Day in Pokémon Go—the very first for this adorable starter Pokémon!

Community Days are a highlight for trainers, providing a chance to catch the Pokémon they began their journey with in the main series games. Popplio, a Gen 7 starter from the Alola region, is not only cute but also a joyful addition to any collection.

Although Popplio tends to be the least-selected starter from its generation, overshadowed by a flamboyant bird and a fiery cat, its final evolution, Primarina, has struggled in Pokémon Go. Recently, it has been the weakest among its evolutionary trio, particularly in Go Battle League. The big question remains: will the exclusive move available today elevate Primarina to new heights?

For the uninitiated, a Community Day is a recurring event in Pokémon Go that celebrates a specific Pokémon. During these events, shiny rates are boosted, and exclusive moves are offered alongside various bonuses!

Throughout the event, trainers will encounter Popplio in abundance, making it the ideal time to catch a Popplio with perfect IV stats. If you manage to catch one, knowing Primarina’s best moveset will be beneficial.

Even if Popplio doesn’t pique your interest, the event offers numerous bonuses that could entice you to participate, such as double catch candy and triple catch XP.

Popplio 100% Perfect IV Stats

August’s Community Day is the perfect opportunity to find a Popplio with ideal IV stats. A ‘perfect’ Popplio is one with maxed-out stats, specifically a 15/15/15 configuration, which is essential for your Pokédex and competitive play in raids and the Master League.

While you can’t see a Pokémon’s IVs until you catch it, you can identify a potential perfect Popplio based on its CP. If you’re at Level 30 or above, aim for the following CPs for a perfect 15/15/15 Popplio:

  • Level 30 (wild CP maximum) – 967 CP
  • Level 35 (weather-boosted wild CP maximum) – 1048 CP

These values will differ if your Trainer Level is below 30, but they remain the benchmarks for most players.

Popplio Evolution Chart

Popplio, also known as the Sea Lion Pokémon, draws inspiration from the Hawaiian monk seal and embodies a circus performer’s spirit. It evolves into Brionne with 25 Popplio Candy, which then evolves into Primarina with an additional 100 Candy.

Brionne may not be particularly remarkable, but Primarina boasts interesting features. It’s the only fully evolved starter Pokémon with a Fairy typing and the only Fairy-type with visible fins. Its name cleverly combines ‘prima donna’, ‘marine’, and ‘ballerina’.

Here are some Pokédex entries for each evolution:

Popplio: This Pokémon can control balloons made of water, practicing diligently to create larger ones.

Brionne: A talented dancer, Brionne creates water balloons while dancing and is known to cheer up its Trainer with performances.

Primarina: Every battle is a stage for Primarina, which uses beautiful singing and dancing to defeat opponents.

Primarina’s Best Moveset Recommendation

Despite its recent struggles in the Go Battle League, the introduction of the exclusive move Hydro Cannon gives Primarina a significant advantage.

Primarina excels with its Fairy typing, particularly useful against Dragon types in the Master League. The optimal moveset for Primarina includes Charm as a fast move, along with Disarming Voice and Hydro Cannon as charged moves. For those wanting more power, Moonblast can replace Disarming Voice for a stronger but costlier option.

Here’s the complete moveset for Primarina:

Primarina Fast Moves

  • Charm (Fairy)
  • Waterfall (Water)

Primarina Charged Moves

  • Disarming Voice (Fairy)
  • Hydro Pump (Water)
  • Moonblast (Fairy)
  • Psychic (Psychic)

Primarina Legacy Charged Moves

  • Hydro Cannon (Water)

Shiny Popplio, Brionne, and Primarina Appearance

This Community Day also marks the debut of shiny versions of Popplio, Brionne, and Primarina. Shiny Popplio features a subtle darker shade of blue and a collar change to pale pink. Brionne follows suit with a color shift from light blue to dark purple and blue accents to light pink.

Primarina’s shiny form is more distinct, featuring blonde hair instead of pale blue and pink frills instead of blue.

Other Popplio Community Day Bonuses

Community Days come with a variety of bonuses, and Popplio Community Day is no exception. Expect increased spawns, shiny rates, and the following bonuses:

  • Double catch Candy
  • Double chance to receive Candy XL from catching Pokémon (for trainers Level 31 and above)
  • Triple catch XP
  • 3-hour Incense duration (except Adventure Incense)
