Genshin Impact Saurians explained, what are they, how to use and all Saurians abilities

Saurians are a captivating addition introduced in the 5.0 update of Genshin Impact, enhancing the immersive experience in the vibrant land of Natlan. These creatures not only inhabit the region but also provide players with innovative ways to engage with the environment.

While full-sized dragons are a rarity in Genshin Impact, their smaller counterparts, the vishaps, are familiar to players. In Natlan, these entities are referred to as Saurians, forming a unique bond with the local villages and inhabitants.

As you venture through the Land of Dragons, you’ll discover not just combat techniques against Saurians but also the ability to transform into one. This guide will delve into the intricacies of how to utilize Saurians and detail the abilities of each Saurian in Genshin Impact.

How to Use Saurians in Genshin Impact

Saurians are distinct creatures found in Natlan, each boasting its own unique skills. Interestingly, they are not mounts for riding; instead, players can indwell Saurians, transforming into them to access their abilities and engage with specific exploration mechanics.

To use a Saurian, simply locate one in your vicinity. A symbol will appear above their heads, prompting the command to indwell them at the bottom of the screen. This action can also be performed with small Saurian totems left behind when you defeat them.

Upon indwelling a Saurian, you are not limited by time, but your abilities will deplete the Saurian’s reserve of Phlogiston, a unique resource exclusive to Natlan. While you can remain in Saurian form after exhausting your Phlogiston, you will lose access to their skills until you find more Phlogiston particles to replenish your gauge.

In Saurian form, you can engage enemies and explore the map. Interestingly, Saurians on the map may not attack you immediately, but they will become suspicious over time. Therefore, it’s wise to distance yourself if you wish to avoid conflict.

For returning to your human form, it’s important to know how to stop indwelling a Saurian at any time.

Currently, there are three types of Saurians available following the 5.0 update: Tepetlisaurus, Yumkasaurus, and Koholasaurus. The Tepetlisaurus and Yumkasaurus are widely found in various areas of Natlan, while the Koholasaurus is specifically located near the People of the Spring village.

All Saurians Abilities Explained in Genshin Impact

Indwelling a Saurian grants access to its unique skills and traits, which are particularly beneficial for navigating the terrains of Natlan, as well as during combat and completing challenges. Below is a summary of the abilities associated with each Saurian.

Tepetlisaurus

The Tepetlisaurus is the first Saurian players encounter in Natlan, serving as an introduction to the indwelling mechanics. This terrestrial, rock-themed creature excels in traversing challenging terrains.

  • Basic Attack: The Tepetlisaurus performs a short dash, using its belly to strike enemies and objects.
  • Skill: By utilizing its skill, the Tepetlisaurus can burrow underground, allowing movement in all directions. A jump while underground results in a quick leap, but remember that this skill consumes Phlogiston.

In terms of exploration, the Tepetlisaurus is perfect for navigating rugged landscapes and reaching elevated areas. Keep an eye out for Molten Fissures, which are reddish openings on walls. The Tepetlisaurus is the only Saurian capable of interacting with these fissures, enabling fast travel without using Phlogiston.

Yumkasaurus

The Yumkasaurus, resembling a cute velociraptor, is ideal for accessing hard-to-reach spots.

  • Basic Attack: The Yumkasaurus delivers a vertical spin attack, striking enemies with its tail.
  • Skill: This Saurian can shoot its long tongue to pull itself toward a designated location. Holding the skill button allows you to aim mid-air.

The Yumkasaurus uniquely interacts with Coilgrass Sigils, symbols found in various parts of Natlan. By using its skill while indwelling a Yumkasaurus, you can propel yourself similarly to a grappling hook. Additionally, it can interact with Flamegranates, explosive plants in Natlan, allowing it to grab and launch them at enemies. When hit with Pyro attacks, these grenades explode, causing damage.

Koholasaurus

The Koholasaurus is a four-legged, shark-like Saurian and is the best swimmer among them. If your exploration takes you to water areas in the Land of Dragons, this is the Saurian to choose.

  • Basic Attack: Koholasaurus charges forward while spinning its body to attack foes.
  • Skill: The Aquadash skill enables Koholasaurus to swim faster by expending Phlogiston. Note that this ability is exclusive to water environments.

While the Koholasaurus can walk on land, it is most effective in water, where it can jump higher and swim faster. Look for light-blue circles on the water that allow for even higher jumps when indwelling this Saurian. Additionally, the Koholasaurus is the only Saurian that can interact with Spiritdoors, golden portals found throughout Natlan. By using these doors, players can surf the Spiritways, ethereal paths created with a Phlogiston Engraving technique, often providing access to otherwise unreachable areas.

Enjoy the adventure of indwelling Saurians and exploring the wonders of Natlan!
