Pokémon Go looks set to add Gen 8’s Dynamax mechanic

Pokémon Go has hinted at an exciting addition to the game: the introduction of the eighth generation’s Dynamax mechanic. This tease is prominently featured in the game’s new 8th Anniversary artwork, which showcases a Dynamaxed Wartortle alongside the trio of Starter Pokémon from Generation 8: Grooky, Scorbunny, and Sobble.

Recently, Pokémon Go’s director suggested that the long-awaited release of Generation 8 Pokémon would focus on highlighting what makes these Pokémon special. Fans have eagerly anticipated the game filling out its Gen 8 Pokédex, especially given the recent focus on Gen 9 Pokémon from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

As fans express their desire to see the game return to Generation 8, this year’s anniversary artwork strongly suggests that such a return is on the horizon. The director acknowledged that the team has been contemplating Generation 8 for some time. While there are no specifics on timing or launch strategy yet, they aim to pay homage to the source material.

“As the team is thinking about Gen 8 Pokémon, they’re considering Galar and what makes those Pokémon unique. When the time comes for their debut in Pokémon Go, it will make sense,” the director explained.

However, it’s important to note that Pokémon Go’s anniversary artwork can sometimes tease Pokémon that take months or even years to be released. For instance, players are still waiting for Mega Mewtwo, which was teased three years ago. The director cautioned that the anniversary artwork is more of a creative vision for the game’s future rather than a definitive roadmap.

In terms of gameplay, Pokémon capable of Dynamax can grow in size, similar to the raid bosses currently in Pokémon Go, and use powerful Max Moves. Additionally, there is a Gigantamax system that grants even more powerful G-Max Moves and alters the Pokémon’s appearance. Fans speculate that this could be implemented similarly to the existing Mega Evolution mechanic.

In the near future, Pokémon Go will celebrate its annual Go Fest Global, featuring the arrival of Mythical Pokémon Marshadow and Necrozma for all players. This upcoming event is sure to bring excitement and anticipation to the community as they await the potential addition of Generation 8 Pokémon and the Dynamax mechanic.
