Pokémon Go Bug Out Collection Challenge, bonuses and research tasks

Bug Out is an exciting event in Pokémon Go that shines a spotlight on Bug-type Pokémon. During this event, players can enjoy increased encounter rates for shiny Combee and shiny Burmy, making it a fantastic time to catch these elusive variants.

As part of the Bug Out event, trainers can participate in the Bug Out Collection Challenges and engage in exclusive field research tasks. Additionally, Bug-type Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild, with bonuses available for achieving Nice, Great, and Excellent Throws.

A highlight of the event is the Mega Heracross Raid Day. Players can battle Mega Heracross and collect Mega Heracross Energy, marking its debut in Pokémon Go.

Bug Out Collection Challenges

Collection Challenge 1

The first Bug Out Collection Challenge runs until April 17 at 8 PM (local time). Completing this challenge earns players a selection of rewards and progress towards their Elite Collector Medal.

Note that four of the Pokémon in this challenge must be obtained through evolution, meaning catching them in the wild will not count towards completion.

  • Caterpie – In the wild
  • Metapod – Evolve Caterpie using 12 Caterpie Candy
  • Butterfree – Evolve Metapod using 50 Caterpie Candy
  • Weedle – In the wild
  • Kakuna – Evolve Weedle using 12 Weedle Candy
  • Beedrill – Evolve Kakuna using 50 Weedle Candy

Completing this challenge rewards players with 50 Beedrill Mega Energy and an encounter with Beedrill.

Collection Challenge 2

The second Bug Out Collection Challenge also concludes on April 17 at 8 PM (local time). Like the first, completing this challenge grants rewards and progress for the Elite Collector Medal.

Three of the Pokémon for this challenge must be obtained through evolution; catching them in the wild will not suffice. Remember, only female Combee can evolve into Vespiquen.

  • Sewaddle – In the wild
  • Swadloon – Evolve Sewaddle using 25 Sewaddle Candy
  • Leavanny – Evolve Swadloon using 100 Sewaddle Candy
  • Combee – In the wild
  • Vespiquen – Evolve a female Combee using 50 Combee Candy

Completing this challenge yields 50 Mega Pinsir Energy and an encounter with Pinsir.

Collection Challenge 3

The third Bug Out Collection Challenge runs until April 17 at 8 PM (local time) as well. Completing this challenge also rewards players with valuable items and progress toward the Elite Collector Medal.

Similar to previous challenges, three Pokémon must be obtained through evolution.

  • Dwebble – In the wild
  • Crustle – Evolve Dwebble using 50 Dwebble Candy
  • Kricketot – In the wild
  • Kricketune – Evolve Kricketot using 50 Kricketot Candy
  • Cutiefly – In the wild
  • Ribombee – Evolve Cutiefly using 50 Cutiefly Candy

Completing this challenge grants 50 Mega Scizor Energy and an encounter with Scizor.

Collection Challenge 4

The final Bug Out Collection Challenge is shorter than the others but still offers rewards and progress toward the Elite Collector Medal.

In this challenge, the second Pokémon must be obtained through evolution, so catching it in the wild will not count.

  • Nincada – In the wild, one-star raids, or through seasonal field research tasks (Hatch an Egg)
  • Ninjask – Evolve Nincada using 50 Nincada Candy

Completing this challenge rewards players with an encounter with Shedinja.

Bug Out Field Research Tasks

During the Bug Out event, players can spin PokéStops to collect event-exclusive field research tasks. These tasks can be completed during the event or saved for later completion.

  • Catch 5 Pokémon – Reward: Plant, Sand, or Trash Cloak Burmy encounter
  • Evolve 3 Pokémon – Reward: 25 Mega Beedrill, Mega Pinsir, or Mega Scizor Energy
  • Make 3 Great Throws in a row – Reward: Dewpider or Wimpod encounter
  • Make 3 Curveball Throws – Reward: Paras or Venonat encounter
  • Trade a Pokémon – Reward: Karrablast or Shelmet encounter

Bug Out Event Overview

The Bug Out event introduces Mega Heracross, with the Mega Heracross Raid Day taking place on April 13 between 2 PM to 5 PM (local time). Players will have the chance to battle Mega Heracross for the first time and start collecting its Mega Energy.

During the Raid Day, the Remote Raid Pass limit will increase to 20, and players can earn five additional Raid Passes by spinning Gyms. Notably, shiny odds for Heracross will be increased during Mega Raids, making it an excellent opportunity to catch this regional exclusive Pokémon.

Throughout the Bug Out event, players can encounter the following Pokémon in the wild:

  • Caterpie
  • Weedle
  • Shuckle
  • Wurmple
  • Nincada
  • Kricketot
  • Combee
  • Sewaddle
  • Dwebble
  • Cutiefly

Additionally, trainers can participate in raids featuring various Pokémon during the Bug Out event.

As always, players can engage in PokéStop Showcases throughout the event. New avatar items, including Combee Bags and Burmy Earrings, will also be available for players to purchase.
