How to beat Lord Jabu-Jabu in Zelda Echoes of Wisdom

You’ll encounter Lord Jabu-Jabu in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom during The Jabul Waters Rift main story quest. This massive fish is blocking your path, and you’ll need to defeat him to allow Tri to access the rift behind him.

How to defeat Lord Jabu-Jabu

The battle with Lord Jabu-Jabu unfolds in three distinct phases. Once you familiarize yourself with his attack patterns and learn to dodge effectively, you’ll be able to take him down quickly.

Phase One

In the initial phase, one of Jabu’s attacks involves sending smaller fish into the water to assault you. To avoid damage, climb onto the floating debris in the water and use your Echoes to eliminate the smaller fish.

Be cautious, as Jabu will swim around and start chewing on some of the debris, which will reduce your safe zones.

Another attack to be wary of occurs when Jabu surfaces at the back of the area and opens his mouth wide, inhaling deeply. This will pull anything nearby, including your character, towards him. To avoid being sucked in, swim against the current until he finishes inhaling. Jumping while swimming can help maintain your distance.

Phase Two

The second phase kicks off when Jabu releases more fish into the water. This time, there are only two large lilypads for you to stand on. Get your character to one of the lilypads and use your inventory to deploy any water-based Echoes you’ve acquired, like Chompfin or Bombfish.

Be on high alert! Jabu will return to the screen after a brief disappearance and will chase you down, even if you’re on a lilypad, so keep moving to avoid being caught.

After dispatching the smaller fish, Jabu will perform the inhaling attack again—repeat the earlier strategy to evade it. Once you survive this, Jabu will be exhausted, providing you a perfect opportunity to swim over and attack him in Swordfighter form.

Phase Three

As Jabu regains his strength, prepare yourself for a frantic escape. His next move will be to release multiple water-based enemies from his mouth.

As before, find safety on a piece of floating debris and use your Echoes to deal with the incoming enemies. Keep an eye out for Jabu’s chomping attack as well.

When Jabu resurfaces after his chomping attack, he will inhale once more. Survive this attack just as you did in the previous phases. Once he’s fatigued again, swim over and continuously attack him in Swordfighter form to finally defeat this formidable aquatic foe.
