Diablo 4: How to get pets and what are they for?
In the fourth season of Diablo 4, Blizzard has rolled out a new feature that Diablo 3 fans may recognize: pets. These delightful companions accompany players on their journeys, offering both visual charm and practical advantages. With the upcoming Vessel of Hatred expansion set for release in October 2024, even more pets are anticipated to be introduced.
Wondering how to unlock these pets and what their functions are? This guide will delve into the different ways to acquire pets and showcase their distinctive traits.
How to Obtain Pets
In Diablo 4, players can obtain pets through two main avenues:
- The standard method, accessible to all, involves completing a brief side quest called “Faithful Companion.”
- The alternative method allows players to purchase new pets from the game’s digital store, which necessitates spending real money.
The side quest “Faithful Companion” is available to all players right after finishing the prologue. You can find this quest in the city of Kyovashad.
To start this quest, head a bit northwest of the teleport point in Kyovashad, where you will find a dog. Interacting with this dog will complete the quest and reward you with the pet Asheara.
In addition to Asheara, there are other pets that can be purchased in the store, but remember that these require real money.
What Purpose Do Pets Serve?
Pets in Diablo 4 act as AI-controlled companions that accompany you while you battle the forces of evil in Sanctuary. They come in various animal forms, such as dogs and cats, and their main purpose is to assist players in gathering valuable resources.
Specifically, pets can collect gold, plants, minerals, fragments of gems, and other materials from the environment. A significant benefit of having a pet is that they cannot die, so their safety during combat is not a concern. However, it’s important to note that pets do not participate in fights; they solely aid in resource collection.
How to Equip a Pet
To utilize your pet effectively, you must first equip it:
- You can only have one pet equipped at a time.
- This can be done via the wardrobe interface.
- Within the wardrobe menus, there is a dedicated section for pets.
- When choosing a pet, be sure to confirm your selection to finalize your choice.
You will know you have successfully equipped a pet when it appears next to your character in the game world.
How Many Pets Are Currently Available?
At present, there are only four different pets in Diablo 4, but players can look forward to more being added in the future as rewards for various in-game activities. Keep an eye out for announcements from Blizzard regarding new pets and features.
It’s important to note that the only distinction among the available pets is their appearance; all pets fulfill the same function and none is superior to the others. Below is a brief overview of the pets currently available:
Asheara
- Unlocked by completing the “Faithful Companion” side quest.
Alkor
- Available by purchasing any version of the Vessel of Hatred expansion.
Hratli
- Can be obtained by acquiring the Deluxe or Ultimate version of the Vessel of Hatred expansion.
Natalya
