Infernal hordes in Diablo 4: Unlock them, get compasses and rewards
One of the thrilling features in Diablo 4 is the Infernal Hordes, introduced as part of the endgame content starting from Season 5. This article will provide guidance on unlocking this exciting activity, its gameplay elements, how to acquire compasses for participation, and the various rewards available.
Accessing the Infernal Hordes
The Infernal Hordes are open to all players in both seasonal and eternal realms once you unlock the Torment I difficulty. This difficulty is accessible after completing certain quests in the game.
- Once you activate Torment I, a priority quest titled “The Eyes of the Enemy” will appear in your journal.
- This quest begins in Zarbinzet, located in the Hawezar region.
- Completing this quest rewards you with your first Infernal Compass, an item that acts as a “key” to enter the gates for the Infernal Hordes.
After finishing this quest, you can access the Infernal Hordes mode. However, each time you wish to start a horde, you’ll need to use a compass from your inventory.
How to Acquire Infernal Compasses
During Season 5, players had the ability to craft compasses akin to nightmare sigils. Currently, these items can only be obtained by engaging in specific activities that provide them.
Endgame activities like Infernal Tides, the Pit, or missions associated with the Tree of Whispers are great sources for gathering compasses.
Note that the difficulty of the compasses scales with your current world level, meaning you will begin receiving higher-level compasses as you progress to the game’s upper tiers.
Understanding the Infernal Hordes
The Infernal Hordes offer a roguelike experience, allowing players to engage in solo or cooperative modes where they face multiple waves of formidable enemies.
- After each wave, players can select from various random offerings that come with benefits and drawbacks.
- Your choices will affect the difficulty of the enemies and the quality of the rewards.
- As you conquer hordes, you will gather Burning Ether, a resource used to unlock rewards.
- You can also complete minor ether events during the mode to earn extra ether.
- Upon finishing the hordes, you will face the Nefarious Council, a boss encounter featuring three council members at once.
Rewards from the Infernal Hordes
After completing a session of the Infernal Hordes by defeating all enemy waves and the Nefarious Council, you can spend any gathered Burning Ether to choose an Infernal Loot Chest, which may yield various rewards.
There are three types of chests available:
- The chest costing 200 ether: This may include ancestral legendary items, unique items, and mythical unique items.
- The chest costing 20 ether: This chest contains various materials such as ores, scrolls, plants, and more.
- The chest costing gold: This allows you to exchange all your remaining ether for gold coins.
