Barboach 100% perfect IV stats, shiny Whiscash in Pokémon Go

This week’s Spotlight Hour centers around Barboach, the Whiskers Pokémon. If this brings cat food to mind, you’re not far off, as it’s the perfect time to catch an ideal Barboach in Pokémon Go.

Barboach may seem like a less significant Pokémon, but it possesses incredible potential. Its evolution, Whiscash, shares the same type as Swampert, which is a powerhouse in PvP. As a Water/Ground type, Whiscash is only vulnerable to Grass-type attacks, a type that is not commonly seen in competitive play, making it a solid choice for your team in Pokémon Go.

If you already have a Whiscash ready for PvP battles, you can take advantage of another exciting aspect of this Spotlight Hour: the double evolution XP bonus. Instead of solely catching Pokémon, you can maximize your XP by using a Lucky Egg and evolving your Pokémon!

Barboach 100% Perfect IV Stats in Pokémon Go

This week’s Spotlight Hour provides an excellent opportunity to catch a Barboach with perfect IV stats.

‘Perfect’ in Pokémon Go can mean two things based on your intended use for a Pokémon. The first is a maxed-out, 100% IV version, which is the ideal 15/15/15 for your 4* Pokédex, raids, and Master League. However, due to how CP is calculated using three stats, a perfect IV Pokémon is generally most effective in the Master League.

While you can’t see a Pokémon’s IVs until you’ve caught it, you can identify a perfect Barboach based on its CP. If you’re at Level 30 (or above), look for the following CPs for a perfect 15/15/15 Barboach:

  • Level 30 (wild CP maximum) – 702 CP
  • Level 35 (weather-boosted wild CP maximum) – 760 CP

The wild CP value aligns with your Trainer Level until you reach Level 30. As most players are now above this level, these values are provided for simplicity, but they will differ if you’re currently below Level 30.

Is Whiscash Good in PvP?

Yes, Whiscash is a strong contender, especially in the Great League.

As a Water/Ground type, Whiscash has a significant weakness to Grass-type moves, which is beneficial since Grass-types are not prevalent in the Go Battle League.

With moves like Mud Shot, Mud Bomb, and Scald, Whiscash is a versatile choice for your team. The only downside is that while Mud Shot charges quickly, it doesn’t deal much damage.

In the Great League, a perfect 0/14/13 Whiscash caps out at 1500 CP, allowing it to triumph against various contenders like Talonflame, Galarian Stunfisk, Lanturn, Azumarill, and Vigoroth. Its losses include Lickitung, Skarmory, Medicham, Cresselia, and Dragonair.

In the Ultra League, Whiscash isn’t a top-tier choice, limited by a CP cap of 2346 at 15/15/15. Although it’s not a go-to option, it can counter Swampert and defeat Registeel, Steelix, Talonflame, and Cobalion. Its losses will include Virizion, Cresselia, Poliwrath, Giratina, and Jellicent.

It is advisable not to use Whiscash in the Master League.

Is There a Shiny Barboach in Pokémon Go?

Yes, there is a shiny Barboach in Pokémon Go! It was released alongside shiny Carvana and Sharpedo during the Water Festival event in August 2019, and has been available for quite some time.

During Spotlight Hours, unlike Community Days, there is no boosted shiny rate. Therefore, while hunting for a shiny Barboach, you will need to rely on the standard shiny rates. Make sure to make the most of this hour if you’re on the hunt!

What Does Shiny Barboach Look Like?

Shiny Barboach features a striking color change, swapping its blues for golds. This transformation is appealing as it adds a unique flair to the design. However, Whiscash’s shiny form is somewhat disappointing, as it merely changes yellows to peachy-reds and blues to darker shades, lacking creativity.

Other Tips for This Spotlight Hour

In addition to trying to catch a perfect shiny Barboach, there are several compelling reasons to participate in this week’s Spotlight Hour. The majority of players will be drawn to the hour-long special bonus:

  • The most significant incentive is the double evolution XP bonus throughout the hour. This allows you to quickly accumulate XP, helping to raise your Trainer Level. Organize your Pokémon storage with two tags: one for Pokémon you want to evolve and keep and another for those you wish to evolve and transfer. You can use the search string 0*,1*,2*&10,13,16,265,293,519&!shiny to find 12-candy Pokémon under 3* easily.
  • If you’re a newcomer, this Spotlight Hour is a perfect time to gather enough Barboach candy to fully evolve this Pokémon and register Whiscash in your Pokédex.
  • Catching several Barboach will also help you progress toward your respective catch bonus medals.

Remember, Spotlight Hour events only last for one hour, from 6 PM to 7 PM local time. Next week, Foongus will be in the spotlight, offering double catch Stardust, making it an event you won’t want to miss!

Good luck in your search for a perfect shiny Barboach!
