Dashcam footage shows police ignoring robbery to play Pokémon Go

Recently released dashcam footage has revealed a shocking incident involving two LAPD officers who chose to ignore emergency police calls in favor of playing Pokémon Go while on duty. The footage showcases them driving erratically as they pursued in-game characters like Snorlax and Togetic, rather than responding to a robbery in progress.

The video, uncovered through public records requests, depicts the officers enthusiastically discussing their Pokémon hunt while radio calls for backup can be heard in the background, including a desperate plea for assistance at a shopping mall where a robbery was occurring.

Pokémon Go has recently expanded its roster with new species from the Paldea region. Watch the gameplay on YouTube.

This incident occurred back in April 2017, during a time when Pokémon Go was still gaining popularity and characters like Snorlax and Togepi were considered rare catches. Following this event, both officers faced termination from their positions.

An excerpt from the three-hour long video captures the officers excitedly discussing their Pokémon encounters and sharing insights about the game’s lore. It highlights their complete disregard for their responsibilities as law enforcement officers.

The extended video footage provides further insight as the officers discuss various game elements, including the coveted Master Ball, and speculate whether the game would ever feature it. Interestingly, the Master Ball was eventually introduced into Pokémon Go six years later.
