Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth patch will fix “very scary” lighting on some characters’ faces

A new patch for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is on the way, aimed at enhancing the graphics in the game’s Performance Mode, particularly addressing the “very scary” lighting effects observed on some characters’ faces.

In a recent interview, the game’s director Naoki Hamaguchi acknowledged the feedback from players regarding the visual quality in Performance Mode. He stated, “We hear you, and we are currently working on an update patch to improve that aspect,” and he expressed optimism that the release of this patch is not far off.

One of the key issues being addressed in this upcoming patch is the lighting on characters’ faces, as Hamaguchi explained, “We have heard from players that in certain situations, the facial lighting makes some character shadows look very scary. So that’s one part of the update that we are working on.”

Details about other potential improvements in the patch remain scarce as the director did not elaborate further on the enhancements being planned.

This isn’t the first instance where the team behind Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has made adjustments to the game’s visuals. Following the release of a demo, it was announced that a patch would be issued to improve the graphics in Performance Mode due to noticeable dips in quality during gameplay.

Players had reported that the demo exhibited a blurriness in Performance Mode compared to the sharper 4K visuals available in Graphics Mode. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was released exclusively on PlayStation 5, and for those still on the fence about the game, a detailed review highlights it as “an overstuffed but lovable re-imagining,” earning a commendable four out of five stars.
