Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s confusing retry menu patched
Players of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth have expressed confusion regarding its retry screen since the game’s launch. Recently, Square Enix implemented a patch that subtly addressed this issue.
A new patch was launched last week, primarily aimed at resolving a bug that hindered players from obtaining the platinum trophy due to a problematic side quest.
While the patch notes did not explicitly mention changes to the retry screen, players quickly noticed modifications shared on social media platforms.
When players die during a boss battle, the game presents multiple retry options: Retry from Before Current Battle; Retry from This Battle; Retry from Before Battle; and Resume. Understanding the distinction between these options proved challenging, leading many players to unintentionally restart from a less favorable checkpoint.
The game over options “retry” verbiage was fixed in the latest patch!

In response to player feedback, the first option has now been modified to read “Retry from Current Phase.” This change indicates that players can retry from the specific point in the boss fight where they failed, rather than being forced to replay the entire encounter, although some ambiguity still remains.
This update demonstrates that Square Enix is attentive to player feedback, making adjustments to enhance the gaming experience.
For those who have completed the game, what were your thoughts on the controversial ending of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth?
