How to beat Black Loong in Black Myth Wukong

Black Loong is a formidable boss that players must confront to conquer the significant adversaries in Black Myth: Wukong. If you’ve encountered a blocked path or a statue in the game and couldn’t interact with it, it’s likely that you need to advance in a side quest to uncover their mysteries.

To access the arena where Black Loong awaits, you need the right item. This guide provides all the essential information to prepare for the battle, strategies to defeat Black Loong, and the rewards you can expect.

How to Find Black Loong

Before facing Black Loong, you must locate them. Black Loong can be found behind a sand waterfall in the Fright Cliff area. Start your journey from the Rockrest Flat shrine and climb the stairs to the right.

Reaching the waterfall isn’t sufficient; you also need the right items. To stop the sand from falling, acquire the Loong Scales. This unique item is hidden behind a wall in the arena where you can challenge the First Prince of Flowing Sands. Access this area using the Valley of Despair shrine in the Sandgate Village region, proceed through the cave, and jump down into a large arena.

Within the arena, one of the walls is adorned with numerous statues. You can break it using the Wandering Wight spirit, or if you’ve previously battled the First Prince of Flowing Sands, they may have already damaged the wall during your fight. Once the wall is destroyed, an interaction point will appear. Use it to enter the room containing a chest that holds the Loong Scales.

How to Prepare for Black Loong

Your preparation for this fight will depend on your progress in the game. Since Black Loong is an optional boss, you can complete Chapter 2 without engaging them. If you’re in Chapter 3 and have defeated Kang-Jin Star, consider crafting the Loongscape armor set. Equipping at least the armguard provides a boost in Shock resistance.

If you’re still in Chapter 2, focus on crafting the best available armor and weapons before the encounter. Creating Shock-Quelling Powder is advisable, as it removes the shocked state and enhances your resistance to shock damage. The effect is temporary, so craft as many as possible. For added safety, consider equipping the Wandering Wight spirit to bolster your defense.

How to Beat Black Loong

In general, Black Loong is manageable, and defeating them revolves around learning their attack patterns to dodge effectively. They wield two massive maces, which they occasionally imbue with electricity. Even their normal attacks can be dangerous, but those infused with electricity will apply the Shock effect.

Black Loong typically employs three-hit combos with their maces, targeting the ground or executing sweeping attacks. They also have an array of smash attacks. Dodging is relatively easy due to their slow movements. However, be cautious of their delayed final hits, which can catch you off guard. After completing their combos, Black Loong pauses for several seconds, providing a prime opportunity for you to strike back.

Should you distance yourself too much, Black Loong will initiate a jump attack followed by a sweeping frontal attack. This sequence covers a wide area in front of them, so it’s essential to dodge just before they land and aim to get behind them. If you stay too close, they may start striking one mace against the other, triggering an area-of-effect attack. The optimal strategy is to maintain distance and wait for Black Loong to stop moving.

One of their most perilous moves is the frontal swing attack. Initially, they will slowly cross their arms, preparing to swing their maces. After a moment, a small tornado will form around them, culminating in a frontal electric swipe. To disrupt this attack, use Immobilize and follow up with a heavy attack to stagger Black Loong.

Another powerful attack in Black Loong’s arsenal is the electric circles. When they prepare to use this move, they will infuse their maces with electricity. At this point, retreat to a safe distance. Black Loong will strike the ground, sending out circles of electricity across the arena. Fortunately, the rhythm of their strikes remains consistent: two slow hits followed by two rapid ones. To evade the initial strikes, dodge as the circles approach, timing your second dodge right after the first one for the quicker strikes. At the end of this attack, they will raise both maces and strike the ground, releasing a massive circle of electricity. Pay attention to their animation when they lift the maces to time your dodge effectively.

Black Loong Rewards

Defeating Black Loong not only brings you glory but also yields substantial rewards. You will receive one Mind Core, a Loong Pearl, and two Refined Iron Sand. Additionally, you’ll gain 2770 Experience Points and 1576 Will after the battle.

After defeating Black Loong, don’t forget to climb the stairs and open the chest for additional loot, which includes a Thunderbone and the Tridacna Pendant curios.

Good luck in your battle against Black Loong!
