How to Beat Ganon in Zelda Echoes of Wisdom
The battle against Ganon in Hyrule Castle Dungeon unfolds in four distinct phases.
Phase One
One of the first attacks to watch out for is Ganon’s disappearing act. He will vanish and then suddenly teleport to your location. The warning sign for this attack is when he begins to spin his axe. To avoid this attack, make sure to keep moving once he disappears; staying mobile will reduce the risk of being crushed when he reappears.
Ganon also performs a thrust attack with his axe. When you see him pull his arm back slightly with a bend at the elbow, brace yourself for this attack. Ensure you’re out of the line of his arm and far enough away to avoid being hit when he thrusts the axe forward.
After executing a thrust, Ganon becomes vulnerable for a brief moment. This is your opportunity to switch to Swordfighter Form and attack him as much as possible while remaining vigilant for his next move.
Phase Two
Once you’ve landed an attack on Ganon, you’ll enter the second phase of the fight.
Ganon upgrades his disappearing act during this phase. When he reappears, he will spin his axe in front of him and start shooting fireballs around the room. You can dodge these fireballs by anticipating their direction.
Ganon will also have a new attack where he throws his axe at you, spinning it as he does so. The best way to avoid this is to wait until he throws the axe and then move to the side to dodge it. Once the axe is thrown, it won’t follow you, making it easier to avoid.
While Ganon’s axe is spinning in place, he will again be vulnerable. Enter Swordfighter Form and go in for the attack.
Phase Three
After successfully striking Ganon, you’ll enter the third stage of the battle. Here, Ganon will recycle his previous attacks, but they will be faster and more dangerous.
He will also introduce a new attack by shooting balls from his hand, similar to the ones you encountered during the game’s prologue. When Ganon fires one of these balls at you, hit it back in his direction using Swordfighter Form. The ball will bounce back and forth between you and Ganon until one of you gets hit.
After successfully hitting the ball back to him, Ganon will be down on his knees for a short time. This is your chance to attack; switch to Swordfighter Form and rush in to deal as much damage as you can.
Phase Four
After attacking Ganon while he’s down, you’ll enter the final phase of this encounter. Ganon will recycle all his previous attacks once more, but they will be even faster now. Your goal is to stay alive and attack him whenever he is on his knees.
Once you’ve successfully defeated Ganon for the last time, you will receive a Heart Piece as a reward for your efforts, allowing you to complete the Hyrule Castle Dungeon.
