How to escape Hyrule Castle in Zelda Echoes of Wisdom
Escaping Hyrule Castle is your first major task in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.
After a brief prologue where mysterious rifts cover the land of Hyrule and swallow Link, Zelda finds herself imprisoned in her own castle’s dungeon during the opening hour of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.
To assist you in navigating Zelda’s adventure, we’ve compiled details on both the Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom prologue and how to escape Hyrule Castle. Be mindful of potential spoilers!
Zelda Echoes of Wisdom Prologue Explained
You start Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom as Link, which is an interesting twist. This opening section is straightforward—simply follow the corridor, defeat any enemies you encounter, and familiarize yourself with the controls. Link is equipped with a sword, bow, and bombs, so feel free to experiment with these items.
Before long, you’ll face Ganon, who has once again kidnapped Zelda. This fight is relatively simple, as Ganon gives clear indications of his attacks, particularly when he thrusts his spear forward, allowing for easy dodging. Link also starts with a full set of Heart Containers, giving you some leeway to take hits.
However, the key attack to watch out for is Ganon’s energy balls. When he sends an energy ball your way, swing your sword at the right moment to hit it back to him. Repeat this until the energy ball hits Ganon, stunning him and giving you a chance to deal damage.
Overall, the encounter with Ganon is quick. Just keep attacking and bouncing back energy balls until he is defeated!
After a cutscene, you’ll take control of Zelda. Approach where Link dropped his cloak to pick it up. Once you do, a nearby rift will begin to grow, and you should follow the small yellow light to escape Ganon’s hideout. Keep running, avoiding or climbing over obstacles until you’re outside.
Another cutscene will follow, and you’ll find yourself in Hyrule Castle Town. Feel free to explore the town briefly, but your ultimate goal is Hyrule Castle.
When you’re ready, enter Hyrule Castle and speak with Impa. While you can explore a small part of the castle, your main objective is to reach the throne room, where Zelda will reunite with her father, the King of Hyrule, in yet another cutscene.
How to Escape Hyrule Castle in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
Things don’t go as planned, and Princess Zelda certainly didn’t anticipate being locked in a dungeon. After a brief wait, a mysterious yellow light appears, revealing itself to be a being named Tri, who grants Zelda the Tri Rod. This powerful item allows Zelda to create Echoes of objects and enemies encountered during her journey. By defeating enemies or recording the Echo of an object, these Echoes can be used for solving puzzles, defeating foes, and navigating Hyrule. The number of Echoes you can manipulate is determined by Tri’s power, indicated by a series of triangles. As you progress, Tri will grow stronger, but first, you need to escape Hyrule Castle.
Start by recording the Echo of a nearby table and then push the table over to a shelf to climb onto it. Create an Echo of the table to climb up and escape through the hole into the next cell.
With the door to this cell open, head out and follow the corridor to your left. Create a series of Table Echoes—one on the floor and then two stacked—to climb onto the shelves and avoid the guard. Once you drop down on the other side, remember to record an Echo of the Wooden Box, as Tri will instruct you further on how Echoes work.
There are two guards patrolling the area, and you’ll need to figure out how to bypass them. Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom encourages creativity in puzzle-solving, so you can approach challenges in your own way. For example, you can wait for both guards to patrol away from your location, then push the box forward to block their paths. Once they are distracted, sneak around the shelf and create a Wooden Box Echo to trap them.
With the guards blocked, you can safely move past them and climb the nearby ladder. Walk along the tops of the shelves until you can record the Hyrule Castle Pot Echo.
Now, use the pots or an Echo to distract the next guard by tossing it in the opposite direction of your intended path, allowing you to move safely.
After encountering another guard, you won’t find any pots nearby, so you’ll need to create an Echo and smash it against a shelf. Once the guard is distracted, head through the door.
Here, you’ll run into Impa again. Fortunately, she’s not a fan of the ‘kill the princess’ plan and provides you with a disguise to aid your escape. Impa also gives you the Log, which contains a map and records of your main and side quests. She advises you to visit a house in the southern region of Hyrule, where residents can assist Zelda before she escapes the castle.
At this point, Zelda’s adventure truly begins with the first main quest—the Mysterious Rifts. You’re still not out of Hyrule Castle yet, so continue your journey to learn how to escape the castle and discover where to head next in the land of Hyrule. Best of luck on your adventure!
