How to get a horse in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom?
In The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, players have the chance to ride a trusty steed while exploring the vast realm of Hyrule. While you may not find the familiar horse named Epona in this installment, Zelda can still traverse the expansive world on horseback. However, before you can gallop off into the sunset, there are certain requirements you must meet to acquire your first horse. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the steps to unlock and ride a horse in this captivating adventure.
How to Obtain a Rental Horse
Throughout your journey in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, you can unlock up to two different horses or mounts. The first type you can acquire is a rental horse, which can be found at the Hyrule Ranch, located in the Hyrule Plains, just west of the Hyrule Citadel.
To get one of these horses as quickly as possible, you need to progress through the story until you complete the game’s first dungeon, known as the Ruins of Sudelia. Afterward, a large portion of the world opens up for exploration, allowing you to make your way to the ranch. Once you arrive, simply speak with the ranch owner to activate the side quest “The Lost Mare”.
The ranch owner will inform you that he has lost a mare to the west. Exit the ranch through the southern entrance and follow the path heading westward. You will soon encounter the missing horse, trapped in a lower area surrounded by water.
To rescue the horse, you’ll need to jump down and create a couple of stacked old beds to reach it (as depicted in the provided image). Once you successfully bring the mare back to the ranch, you will complete the quest, and from that moment on, you can mount any standard horse from the ranch without any cost in rupees. However, keep in mind that you cannot call the horse to your location if you leave it behind.
How to Unlock Zelda’s Special Horse
As you progress further in the game, you will have the opportunity to unlock Zelda’s special horse, a beautiful white mare you may have noticed at the ranch. To do this, advance the story until you complete the dungeon at the Hyrule Castle. Once you finish, head to the throne room and speak with Impa to initiate the side quest “Impa’s Gift”.
After starting this quest, visit the ranch and talk to the girl there to learn that Zelda’s horse has become lost in a gap, specifically in the carrot garden located northwest of the Hyrule Citadel (its location will be marked on your map).
You’ll need to head over to that area and access the gap to rescue the horse and repair the companions of Tri. By doing so, you will reclaim Zelda’s horse, which will now be yours. Additionally, you will also gain the ability to memorize the carrot replica, an item that allows you to summon your horse from nearly anywhere, ensuring swift travel across the kingdom.
