How to get Solgaleo and Lunala in Pokémon Go

At the time of writing, Go Fest ticket holders can obtain one of these Pokémon from the Go Fest 2024: The Dusk Settles quest depending on the path you need to take.

Solgaleo and Lunala are both Gen 7 legendary Pokémon, which debuted in Pokémon Go during the Season of Light.

Released during the Astral Eclipse event in Pokémon Go, players can currently obtain one of these Pokémon by completing specific requirements of the A Cosmic Companion special research quest.

This quest involves catching Cosmog – the first stage evolution for Solgaleo and Lunala – and earning enough candy for its evolutions. There is a special requirement to evolve Cosmoem into either Solgaleo or Lunala.

How to Evolve Cosmoem into Solgaleo in Pokémon Go

To evolve Cosmoem into Solgaleo, you will need 100 Cosmog Candy and must conduct the evolution during the day.

At the moment, the only way to earn Cosmog candy is by reaching Step 8 of the A Cosmic Companion special research quest, using Rare Candy, or having Cosmog or Cosmoem as your buddy.

Even if you have enough candy for both evolutions, you only have one Cosmoem, so ensure Solgaleo is the Pokémon you wish to add to your Pokédex.

Regarding the time requirement, remember that the time in Pokémon Go matches your current time zone. If it’s currently daytime where you are, it will be daytime in Pokémon Go as well, reflected by a vibrant green map if it’s sunny.

The evolution button for Cosmoem should also show a small silhouette of Solgaleo.

How to Evolve Cosmoem into Lunala in Pokémon Go

To evolve Cosmoem into Lunala, you need 100 Cosmog Candy and must wait for it to be night in Pokémon Go.

Currently, the easiest way to earn enough candy for this evolution is to reach Step 8 in the A Cosmic Companion special research quest. You can also earn additional Cosmog candy using Rare Candy and having it as your buddy.

However, even if you have 200 Cosmog candy, you can only evolve one Cosmoem, so consider evolving it into Lunala carefully.

For the time-of-day requirement, simply wait for night to fall, both in reality and in Pokémon Go. The time in Pokémon Go corresponds to your current time zone, so if it’s nighttime in your location, it will be nighttime in the game, with the map turning a dark blue.

The evolution button for Cosmoem should also show a small silhouette of Lunala.

Is Solgaleo or Lunala Better in Pokémon Go?

Since players can only have one Cosmoem in Pokémon Go, you must choose between Solgaleo and Lunala. This raises the question: which one is better?

Neither Solgaleo nor Lunala stands out in raids due to their movesets, which prevent them from fully utilizing their dual typings. Solgaleo’s Metal Claw lacks the power to surpass Metagross’ Meteor Mash, and while Lunala performs slightly better, it too requires a stronger moveset to outpace other Pokémon of its type.

In the Go Battle League, Solgaleo is an interesting choice for both the Ultra and Master Leagues, but its moveset holds it back. Lunala, on the other hand, currently lacks a competitive moveset, though it has the potential to become a formidable choice if it gains moves like Psyshock in the future.

For this reason, we recommend evolving Cosmoem into the legendary Pokémon you prefer.

Good luck adding Solgaleo or Lunala to your Pokédex!
