How to get the Cosmo Canyon Chocobo in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Getting the Cosmo Canyon Chocobo in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth requires patience and strategic planning. You can acquire this Chocobo soon after entering the region, and it’s highly recommended to do so, as its unique abilities will aid in your exploration.

Similar to other Chocobos in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, you will need to wrangle this one, encountering a few challenges along the way—specifically, skittish Chocobos.

How to Get the Cosmo Canyon Chocobo

To obtain the Cosmo Canyon Chocobo, you must utilize the Carts on the track to avoid detection by other Chocobos and reach Aponi.

Start by initiating the ‘Bonds of Trust’ side quest by speaking to Kamaria at the Cosmo Chocobo Ranch. To reach the ranch, follow the path from the Landing Strip where you first arrive in Cosmo; it is located next to the Activation Intel 1: Kamaria’s Ranch.

Kamaria will guide you to the location of Aponi, the Cosmo Canyon Chocobo, which is situated just north of the Chocobo Ranch:

As you approach the Chocobos, you will trigger a mini-game to capture Aponi. Your target is the Blue Chocobo located at the rear of the area, surrounded by several other alert Chocobos. To succeed, you’ll need to make good use of the Carts around the area to stay hidden.

If one of the Chocobos spots you, they will alert the others, forcing you to restart from the beginning or from a checkpoint, depending on your progress.

At the start of the area, press and hold L2 to push the Cart forward on the tracks, placing it in front of the Chocobo on the right. Be cautious not to push it too far, or you will be spotted.

Once it’s safe, switch to the opposite side and start pulling the Cart along the tracks until you reach a large metal box with another Chocobo beside it. Switch sides again to push the Cart past this box, ensuring it blocks the Chocobo’s view.

Next, switch to the other side of the Cart and pull it along the tracks. Keep an eye out on your left for the track switch lever. Make sure the Cart is hiding you from view before pressing and holding Triangle to operate the lever.

After switching the tracks, push the Cart down the newly created path, ensuring to wait for the Chocobo to turn its back before proceeding. Line the Cart up again to block the view of another Chocobo nearby and push it along the track.

Eventually, you will come to a section with a cluster of rocks on the ground to your left. Collect some rocks by pressing Triangle, then stand behind your Cart and aim at the distant Chocobo using L1.

Throw a rock using Square to distract the Chocobo. A green timer will appear, indicating how long you have before it turns back. As soon as the Chocobo is distracted, dash to the track switch lever and press Triangle to switch the tracks again.

Continue pushing your Cart forward; the Chocobo you previously distracted should not pose a threat. Stop near the next set of rocks before the final yellow Chocobo.

Gather more rocks if needed, then position yourself behind the Cart to distract the final Chocobo. Use L1 to aim and throw a rock behind it. As before, a green countdown will appear, signaling that you must act quickly.

Once you’ve pushed the Cart as far forward as possible, you should be close to Aponi. Stay hidden and throw one last rock behind Aponi. Be aware that they will not remain distracted for long, so as soon as they begin to turn back, rush up behind them and press Triangle to wrangle them.
