Makuhita 100% perfect IV stats, shiny Hariyama in Pokémon Go

This week’s Spotlight Hour event focuses on the Guts Pokémon, Makuhita, making it an excellent time for trainers to catch this Fighting-type Pokémon in Pokémon Go! While Makuhita evolves into Hariyama, which was once a competitive choice in the Great League and Ultra League, it has been overshadowed by stronger contenders like Medicham and Machamp. As a result, it now serves more as a Pokédex entry than a battle-ready Pokémon.

This week’s Spotlight Hour offers a double catch candy bonus, allowing trainers to gather more Makuhita Candy than they might need. This bonus also applies to Pokémon collected as Research rewards, so it’s a great time to utilize any backlog of Pokémon you have stored up!

Makuhita’s Perfect IV Stats in Pokémon Go

The Spotlight Hour is a prime opportunity to catch a Makuhita with perfect IV stats. In Pokémon Go, a “perfect” Pokémon can refer to two different types depending on how you plan to use it: the maxed-out 100% IV version (15/15/15), which is ideal for raids and the Master League, and a perfect IV Pokémon that is often only the best version of itself in the Master League.

While you can’t see a Pokémon’s IVs until you catch it, you can do some prep work to identify a perfect Makuhita based on its Combat Power (CP). If you are at Level 30 or above, keep an eye out for the following CPs for a perfect 15/15/15 Makuhita:

  • Level 30 (wild CP maximum) – 700 CP
  • Level 35 (weather boosted CP maximum) – 759 CP

The wild CP value corresponds to your current trainer level until you reach Level 30, which is why these values are particularly relevant for most players.

Is Hariyama Good in PvP?

Hariyama has historically been a viable choice in the Great League and Ultra League; however, it has since been outclassed by other Pokémon. As a mono-Fighting type, it struggles against competitors such as Medicham in the Great League and Machamp in the Ultra League. If you don’t have a Machamp, Hariyama could serve as a slightly inferior substitute, but many players likely have a surplus of Machamp.

Hariyama is vulnerable to Fairy, Flying, and Psychic types and has resistance against Rock, Dark, and Bug types. Its optimal moveset includes Counter, Close Combat, and Heavy Slam, making it both versatile and capable of applying good pressure on opponents, though it does require some skill to use effectively due to its self-debuffing moves.

In the Great League, Hariyama can secure victories against Skarmory, Galarian Stunfisk, Whiscash, Lickitung, and Lanturn, but it generally loses to Annihilape, Talonflame, Azumarill, Shadow Dragonair, and Charjabug. In the Ultra League, it can triumph against Registeel, Cobalion, Swampert, Steelix, and Greninja, but it faces defeats against Talonflame, Giratina Altered, Poliwrath, Cresselia, and Virizion. Although it has a respectable CP of 3198 at Level 50, the Master League is not recommended for Hariyama as it tends to lose more battles than it wins.

Shiny Makuhita and Shiny Hariyama in Pokémon Go

Yes, shiny Makuhita and shiny Hariyama were introduced during the 2018 Battle Showdown event. If you’re lucky, you may come across a shiny Makuhita in the wild, but keep in mind that the shiny rates are not boosted during this Spotlight Hour since it is not a Community Day. Therefore, the chances of encountering a shiny, let alone a perfect one, are rather slim. Nevertheless, every Makuhita you encounter has the potential to be shiny, so it’s worth tapping on each one!

Appearance of Shiny Makuhita and Shiny Hariyama

Shiny Makuhita features a slight color variation; it retains its yellow hue but changes its slate grey coloration to a pinkish-orange. On the other hand, shiny Hariyama stands out with its striking purple hands, making it more noticeable. The shiny designs might seem a bit odd, as not all parts of them are altered, but overall, they are well-received by trainers.

Other Tips for This Spotlight Hour

Participating in this week’s Spotlight Hour offers more than just the chance to catch a shiny Makuhita:

  • The primary incentive is the double catch candy bonus, allowing you to gather Candy at an accelerated rate. Each Makuhita caught can yield up to 13 Candy when using a Pinap or Silver Berry, especially if paired with a Mega-Evolved Pokémon of the same type.
  • This bonus also applies to your research rewards. It’s important to note that you don’t have to catch these Pokémon immediately after completing a task; if you run away from a reward Pokémon, it will count towards a ‘bank’ of up to 200 Pokémon that you can save for maximizing bonuses later.
  • For newcomers, this Spotlight Hour is an ideal time to accumulate enough Makuhita Candy to fully evolve a Makuhita and fill that entry in your Pokédex.
  • Catching a significant number of Makuhita during this Spotlight Hour will contribute to your respective catch bonus medal.

Remember, Spotlight Hour events are time-limited, typically occurring from 6 PM to 7 PM local time. Good luck in your quest for the perfect Makuhita!
