How Mega Evolutions Work
The concept of Mega Evolution and its mechanics in Pokémon GO are straightforward. Here are the essential points to understand:
- Mega Evolution is an additional evolutionary stage that some Pokémon can achieve, granting them a distinct appearance and enhanced stats for a limited time.
- To Mega Evolve a Pokémon in Pokémon GO, you will need a resource called Mega Energy.
- Once a Pokémon has Mega Evolved, it will remain in this form for a limited duration, which can be checked in the Pokémon’s information panel.
- After Mega Evolving a Pokémon for the first time, subsequent Mega Evolutions do not require any Mega Energy; you just need to let the Pokémon rest for a few days.
- The more you Mega Evolve a specific Pokémon, the more its Megan level will increase, reducing the wait time between Mega Evolutions and providing better bonuses and advantages.
How to Obtain Mega Energy
There are two primary ways to acquire Mega Energy in Pokémon GO:
- Earn Mega Energy by completing Mega Raids: The faster you finish, the more Mega Energy you receive (instead of Honor Balls). The amount of Mega Energy awarded corresponds to the Pokémon you face in the raid, ranging from 50 to 90 points.
- Rewards from Special Research: You can also receive Mega Energy as a reward for completing specific tasks in Special Research and time-limited events.
Note that you can accumulate up to 9999 Mega Energy for each Pokémon.
Using Mega Evolutions
Lastly, it’s important to clarify the scenarios where you can utilize a Mega Evolved Pokémon while it has the effects of this state, as it gains various bonuses and advantages. You can take advantage of Mega Evolutions in the following circumstances:
- To battle in gyms.
- To fight against members of Team GO Rocket.
- To engage in PvP battles with friends.
- To take these Pokémon as companions during your adventures.
It’s worth mentioning that Mega Evolutions cannot be used to defend gyms or to compete in the GO Battle League.
