Pokémon Go Blacephalon counters, weaknesses and moveset explained
Blacephalon, known as the Fireworks Pokémon, is now available in Pokémon Go. Introduced in May 2024 as part of the Ultra Space Wonders, this Fire and Ghost-type Pokémon can only be caught through raid battles. To successfully take it down and capture it, understanding Blacephalon’s counters and weaknesses is essential, as well as knowing its best moveset.
Blacephalon Counters and Weaknesses
To defeat Blacephalon in a raid battle, knowing its counters and weaknesses is crucial:
- Type: Fire/Ghost-type
- Weaknesses: Blacephalon is vulnerable to Dark, Ghost, Ground, Rock, and Water-type attacks.
- Resistances: It resists Fairy, Fire, Grass, Ice, Poison, and Steel-type attacks.
- Super Resistances: Blacephalon is highly resistant to Bug, Fighting, and Normal-type attacks.
- Best Mega Counters: Primal Kyogre and Primal Groudon are your top choices, with Primal Kyogre being slightly more effective. If these aren’t available, consider Mega Tyranitar and Mega Swampert.
- Best Non-Mega Counters: Strong options include the Shadow version of Tyranitar, Kyogre, Rampardos, Rhyperior, and Groudon. Dawn Wings Necrozma is particularly effective with its Moongeist Beam. Other good picks are Tyranitar, Hydreigon, Kyogre, and even Blacephalon itself.
- Number of Trainers: To take down Blacephalon, you’ll need a team of two to five Trainers using fully optimized Level 40 counters.
- Tactics: With a low Raid CP, simply bring your strongest counters and focus on attacking until Blacephalon is defeated.
Blacephalon CP
Understanding Blacephalon’s CP is important for both battling and catching:
- Raid CP: Blacephalon has a Raid CP of 25,958.
- Catch CP Range: The CP range for catching Blacephalon after defeating it is between 1797 and 1884.
- Weather Bonus: If it’s sunny or foggy when you catch it, the CP range increases to 2246 to 2355.
Best Blacephalon Moveset
While Blacephalon has the potential to be a powerful Pokémon, its moveset currently leaves much to be desired. With a significantly higher attack stat (315) compared to its defense (148), it’s not likely to excel in PvP battles anytime soon.
The recommended moveset for Blacephalon in Pokémon Go consists of:
- Fast Move: Incinerate (Fire)
- Charged Moves: Shadow Ball (Ghost), Mystical Fire (Fire), and Overheat (Fire)
About Blacephalon
Blacephalon, also known as UB Burst, is part of the second wave of Ultra Beasts introduced in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. Though classified as the Fireworks Pokémon, its clown-like appearance is notable. Its design features an ‘exploding head,’ which is significant as it is the only Ultra Beast with a signature move called Mind Blown. In Japanese, its name (Zugadon) translates to ‘head does boom,’ hinting at its explosive nature.
Official Pokédex entry for Blacephalon:
- Blacephalon: ‘It slithers toward people. Then, without warning, it triggers the explosion of its own head. It’s apparently one kind of Ultra Beast. A UB that appeared from an Ultra Wormhole, it causes explosions, then takes advantage of opponents’ surprise to rob them of their vitality.’
Currently, shiny Blacephalon has not been released in Pokémon Go, meaning you won’t encounter it in raids yet. However, when it does become available, shiny Blacephalon will replace its white color with navy blue, which gives it a more appealing appearance.
Good luck in your quest to defeat and capture Blacephalon in Pokémon Go!
