Pokémon Go looks to be adding Fuse mechanic, as Necrozma confirmed for Go Fest

Pokémon Go appears to be introducing a new mechanic inspired by the main series Pokémon games: the concept of Pokémon Fusion. Recent datamining efforts have uncovered references to this mechanic, indicating how it might be implemented and which Pokémon could participate.

Fusion, which allows one Pokémon to temporarily merge with another, is an exciting addition, especially with the upcoming arrival of Necrozma at Go Fest 2024. This has been hinted at during a recent real-life solar eclipse and has now been officially confirmed for inclusion in summer events through raid battles.

Necrozma stands out as a Pokémon capable of fusing with other species, specifically merging with the Legendary Pokémon Solgaleo or Lunala from Pokémon Sun and Moon to become Duskmane Necrozma or Dawnwing Necrozma. This new Fusion mechanic could add a strategic layer to gameplay as players look to harness these powerful forms.

Data mining has also revealed references to acquiring resources known as Lunar or Solar Fusion Energy, which are likely necessary for activating the Fusion process. It’s speculated that players may obtain these resources through raids involving Solgaleo and Lunala, similar to the mechanics currently in place for Mega Raids and Mega Energy.

Interestingly, the datamine also mentions two additional Pokémon that may support the Fusion mechanic: Kyurem, which can fuse with either Zekrom or Reshiram, and Calyrex, which can fuse with either Glastrier or Spectrier. This expansion of Fusion options promises to enhance the gameplay experience.

In late 2023, there was a brief incident where Niantic unintentionally released already-Fused versions of Kyurem before rectifying the error, hinting at the complexity and excitement surrounding the Fusion feature.

The 2024 Go Fest events are set to kick off in Sendai, Japan, from May 30 to June 2, followed by Madrid, Spain, from June 14 to 16, and then returning to New York from July 5 to 7. A global finale event for all players will take place in-game on July 13 and 14, making it an exciting time for trainers everywhere.
