Pokémon Go Lustrous Odyssey field research tasks and Dusk Form Lycanroc explained
Lustrous Odyssey marks the first significant Pokémon Go event of 2024, introducing the highly anticipated Dusk Form Lycanroc and its shiny variant. Players have long been able to evolve Rockruff into its Midday and Midnight Forms, but obtaining Dusk Form Lycanroc is a unique challenge, especially if you’re aiming for the shiny version.
To evolve Rockruff into Dusk Form Lycanroc, it’s essential to understand that not all Rockruffs have the potential to evolve into this form. The shiny Rockruff you may have caught before the Lustrous Odyssey event cannot evolve into a shiny Dusk Form Lycanroc. Instead, you must catch a new shiny Rockruff with the capability to evolve into Dusk Form Lycanroc.
Once you have a suitable Rockruff, you need to gather 50 Rockruff Candy and perform the evolution between 5 PM and 7 PM (local time). During this time frame, your chances of successfully evolving your Rockruff into Dusk Form Lycanroc increase significantly.
How to Obtain Dusk Form Lycanroc in Pokémon Go
Rockruffs that can evolve into Dusk Form Lycanroc can be found in the wild or hatched from 2km and 7km eggs collected during the Lustrous Odyssey event. However, there is no guarantee that every Rockruff you encounter will be eligible for this evolution. Additionally, you can earn encounters with Rockruff through event-exclusive field research tasks or by completing specific steps in the special research quest.
Lustrous Odyssey Field Research Tasks
During the Lustrous Odyssey event, players can earn exclusive field research tasks by spinning PokéStops. These tasks can be saved for completion after the event ends. Below are the tasks you can complete:
- Win 2 raids: Reward – Rockruff encounter
- Hatch an Egg: Reward – Hisuian Sneasel encounter
- Hatch 2 Eggs: Reward – Hisuian Growlithe encounter
- Hatch 3 Eggs: Reward – Rockruff encounter
Details about the Lustrous Odyssey Event
The Lustrous Odyssey event features several bonuses until it concludes. One significant bonus is that your buddy Pokémon will remain visible on the map for a longer duration after feeding it either Berries or Poffins. Additionally, the frequency with which your buddy can find gifts and souvenirs is increased.
Another exciting aspect of the event is that Rockruff can be hatched from eggs collected via Adventure Sync. However, remember that only certain Rockruffs can evolve into Dusk Form Lycanroc.
Throughout the event, various Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild. Expect to encounter:
- Gastly
- Eevee
- Spinarak
- Sunkern
- Espeon
- Umbreon
- Teddiursa
- Lunatone
- Solrock
- Yungoos
- Fomantis
- Morelull
Additionally, players will have the opportunity to battle specific Pokémon in raids during the event:
- One-Star Raids: Hisuian Growlithe, Rhyhorn, Hisuian Sneasel, Rockruff
- Three-Star Raids: Lapras, Aerodactyl, Hisuian Braviary, Wyrdeer
- Five-Star Raids: Buzzwole (region-specific), Pheromosa (region-specific), Xurkitree (region-specific), Tornadus Therian Forme (from a specific date)

Finally, Rockruff will appear in 2km and 7km egg pools during the event. While it is uncertain if Rockruff will remain available in these eggs post-event, any Rockruff obtained during this period has the potential to evolve into Dusk Form Lycanroc. Enjoy the hunt and best of luck capturing Dusk Form Lycanroc!
