Pokémon Go Medals list, all Platinum Medals and Catch Bonus explained
Medals in Pokémon Go serve as an achievement system within the game, allowing players to track their accomplishments. As you play, you may receive notifications about newly unlocked Medals, similar to leveling up your Trainer. Each Medal not only tracks statistics—such as the distance you’ve walked or the variety of Pokémon types you’ve caught—but also provides various bonuses and rewards.
Initially, type-based Medals offered a Catch Bonus starting in October 2016. In November 2020, the introduction of Platinum Medals—a fourth tier for specific categories—occurred as part of the Go Beyond update, which also impacted Trainer Levels 40 and above.

How does Pokémon Go’s Catch Bonus work?
To view your Medals, tap on your Trainer icon located in the bottom left corner of the map screen and scroll down. The Medals interface is divided into two sections: the upper section displays traditional Medal goals—such as distance walked and the number of large Magikarp caught—which do not provide bonuses. The lower section categorizes Medals by Type, which do offer Catch Bonuses.
The strength of the Catch Bonus increases with the Medal’s tier: Bronze grants +1, Silver grants +2, and Gold grants +3. If you encounter Pokémon with multiple types, such as the Flying/Normal Type Pidgey, the Catch Bonus will be averaged. The exact nature of this bonus, however, remains somewhat unclear.
It is widely theorized that this bonus is a percentage increase applied to the base capture rate, potentially making it quite beneficial, especially for notoriously difficult Pokémon like Dragonite. Overall, the Catch Bonus implies that the more Pokémon you catch, the better your chances become in future encounters, which is particularly useful as even low-level Pokémon become increasingly difficult to capture at higher levels.

Other things you should know about Catch Bonus and Medals in Pokémon Go
- Some Medals are exclusive to attending Go Fest events. To earn these, players must attend the event with a ticket, and they serve as a badge of participation afterward.
- Certain Medals will only appear once you’ve begun working towards them. For example, the ‘Pikachu’ Medal won’t show up until you catch your first Pikachu.
- Once you unlock a Medal, you can tap on it to track your progress toward the next tier. This tracking continues even after reaching Gold, allowing you to see how many Pokémon of specific types you have caught.
- Each Medal is named after Trainer classes found in the main Pokémon games, which adds an extra layer of nostalgia for players.
- Pokémon obtained through trading also contribute to progress on certain Medals, including those related to size, like Fisherman and Youngster.
