The Spotlight Hour in Pokémon Go is a weekly event featuring a special Pokémon and a unique bonus effect. This event was originally part of the Mystery Bonus Hour but was merged with the Spotlight Hour in April 2020.

During this one-hour event, the chosen Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild, allowing players to catch as many as possible. This is an excellent opportunity to fill in missing entries in the Pokédex or to find strong Pokémon for raids. The event also provides a special bonus that can significantly assist players in their Pokémon journey. Bonuses can range from double transfer candy, which helps in evolving Pokémon faster, to double catch stardust.

Each Spotlight Hour occurs from 6 PM to 7 PM local time, featuring different Pokémon and bonuses:

Wooloo – Bonus: Double Evolution XP
Dewpider – Bonus: Double Catch Stardust
Wobbuffet – Bonus: Double Catch XP
Machop – Bonus: Double Catch Candy

How to Prepare for a Spotlight Hour

To make the most of the Spotlight Hour, consider these preparation tips:

Gather Supplies

Make sure to have enough Poké Balls and berries. You have only an hour to catch as many of the featured Pokémon as possible, so avoid wasting time spinning PokéStops.

Check Storage Space

Ensure you have enough space in your Pokémon Storage Box. You don’t want to waste time transferring unwanted Pokémon unless the bonus is double transfer candy.

Use Lures

Check if you have spare lures, as using one will increase the number of Pokémon you encounter in the wild for half an hour. This can help you catch more of the featured Pokémon during the Spotlight Hour.

Utilize Lucky Eggs or Star Pieces

Since the Mystery Bonus Hour has merged with this event, using a Lucky Egg or Star Piece during the Spotlight Hour can enhance the XP or Stardust bonuses you receive, helping you level up more quickly or build your team for the Go Battle League.
