Pokémon Go Taken Treasures field research tasks and rewards

Taken Treasures introduces a new chapter in Pokémon Go as Team Rocket makes another attempt to take over the Pokémon world. This event brings significant changes, including a revamped lineup for Giovanni and other Team Rocket Leaders, alongside the introduction of Varoom and Revavroom. Additionally, players can look forward to encountering Shadow Kyogre and Shadow Ho-Oh for the first time in Shadow Raids, along with several new Shadow Pokémon.

Participants can take on event-exclusive field research tasks and continue their progress in the ongoing Timeless Travels Seasonal Research quest.

Taken Treasures Field Research Tasks

During the Taken Treasures event, players can acquire exclusive field research tasks by spinning PokéStops. While it’s possible to save these tasks for later completion, it is advisable to finish those that reward Mysterious Components during the event, as they are crucial for advancing in the Timeless Travels quest.

Completing these tasks also offers a higher chance of encountering shiny Pokémon compared to those found in the wild, although not all shiny forms have been released yet.

List of Field Research Tasks

  • Catch a Shadow Pokémon – Reward: 1 Mysterious Component
  • Purify 3 Shadow Pokémon – Reward: 1 Fast or Charged TM
  • Defeat a Team Go Rocket Grunt – Reward: Encounter with Ekans, Zubat, Koffing, Poochyena, or Croagunk
  • Defeat 2 Team Go Rocket Grunts – Reward: Encounter with Paldean Wooper, Scraggy, Bruxish, Mareanie, or Nymble
  • Defeat 3 Team Go Rocket Grunts – Reward: Encounter with Hisuian Qwilfish or Sableye

Details About the Taken Treasures Event

The Taken Treasures event runs until February 1st and heralds the arrival of Varoom and Revavroom from Gen 9. Players can learn how to add these new Pokémon to their Pokédex, particularly through changes to the 12km egg pool introduced during the event.

This event also marks the culmination of the Timeless Travels Seasonal Research quest, where players will face Giovanni, who now commands Shadow Kyogre. Make sure to include a strong Electric-type Pokémon in your team. Players have until March 1st to claim this research quest.

The Team Rocket Leaders have also updated their lineups, introducing new Shadow Pokémon including:

  • Shadow Corphish (can evolve into Shadow Crawdaunt)
  • Shadow Snorunt (can evolve into Shadow Glalie or Shadow Froslass)
  • Shadow Chimchar (can evolve into Shadow Monferno and Shadow Infernape)
  • Shadow Piplup (can evolve into Shadow Prinplup and Shadow Empoleon)
  • Shadow Croagunk (can evolve into Shadow Toxicroak)
  • Shadow Dwebble (can evolve into Shadow Crustle)
  • Shadow Ferroseed (can evolve into Shadow Ferrothorn)

Players may also encounter shiny variants of these Pokémon during the event.

As Team Rocket attempts to assert dominance, their balloons will be more prevalent in the skies, and Grunts will invade more PokéStops. Additionally, players can utilize a Charged TM to help Shadow Pokémon forget the Frustration Charged attack.

For the first time, Shadow Ho-Oh will also be featured in Shadow Raids, available from January 27th to January 28th. Alongside Shadow Ho-Oh, various Pokémon will appear in Shadow Raids, including:

  • Shadow Alolan Sandshrew (One Star)
  • Shadow Scyther (Three Star)
  • Shadow Murkrow (One Star)
  • Shadow Skarmory (Three Star)
  • Shadow Pinceo (One Star)
  • Shadow Golett (Three Star)
  • Shadow Croagunk (One Star)

In regular raids, players will also encounter a variety of Pokémon, enhancing the excitement of the event.

The event includes a pay-to-play Timed Research quest available for purchase, which rewards players with various items, Pokémon encounters, and a new animated pose. However, it must be completed before the event concludes on February 1st to claim the rewards.
