Pokémon Go waited until the eclipse to announce Necrozma’s arrival

Pokémon Go has made headlines by choosing the moment of a total solar eclipse to tease an exciting new addition to the game. The event marked a perfect backdrop for the announcement, generating significant buzz among fans.

During this celestial event, the game hinted at the arrival of Necrozma, a colossal dragon Pokémon that serves as the mascot for the 3DS titles Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. Known for its ability to absorb vast amounts of light and transform its form, Necrozma fits perfectly with the theme of the eclipse.

A short teaser video shared on social media showcased Necrozma’s shadow ominously looming over people as the eclipse concluded. The video concluded with this year’s Pokémon Go Fest logo appearing, further exciting fans about the upcoming events.

Pokémon Go Fest, the game’s annual summer event, has been largely detailed, with this year’s focus shifting to the Mythical Pokémon Marshadow alongside a Sun and Moon theme. However, the introduction of Necrozma suggests it will also play a significant role, likely appearing in raids while Marshadow becomes available through Special Research tasks.

Fans are eager to see if Necrozma’s various forms will be accessible in the game. This powerful Pokémon can absorb the Legendary creatures Solgaleo and Lunala, transforming into Dusk Mane Necrozma and Dawn Wings Necrozma, respectively. Additionally, it can achieve yet another form, Ultra Necrozma, through a process similar to Mega Evolution.

This year’s festivities will feature three in-person Go Fest events around the globe, culminating in a global finale for all players.

The Pokémon Go Fest 2024 will kick off in Sendai, Japan, from May 30 to June 2, followed by events in Madrid, Spain, from June 14 to June 16, and in New York City from July 5 to July 7. The global finale will take place on July 13 and 14.

Currently, tickets for the Pokémon Go Fest in Madrid are priced at £24 for early birds. Interestingly, early bird pricing ends today, after which tickets will be available for £28. The timing certainly seems linked to the excitement surrounding Necrozma.
