Poliwag 100% perfect IV stats, shiny Poliwag in Pokémon Go
This week’s Spotlight Hour features a variety of Pokémon, including the Tadpole Pokémon, Poliwag, making it an excellent opportunity to catch a perfect Poliwag in Pokémon Go.
Poliwag’s evolutions, Poliwrath and Politoed, are solid choices in Pokémon Go, particularly in the Go Battle League. This makes the current Spotlight Hour a valuable event for trainers.
Even if competitive play isn’t your thing, or if Poliwag doesn’t particularly interest you, there’s more to this Spotlight Hour. It’s also highlighting other Pokémon like Vulpix, Snorunt, and Hippopotas! This event may connect with Weather Week, yet it raises questions about the absence of Weather Pokémon in the Spotlight, leaving players wondering what a pure hour of Castform would have been like.
Additionally, a special bonus runs alongside the event: a double Catch XP bonus. This allows you to maximize your XP by using a Lucky Egg while catching Pokémon during the hour.
Poliwag’s 100% Perfect IV Stats in Pokémon Go
This Spotlight Hour is an ideal chance to find a Poliwag with perfect IV stats. For Poliwag, the CP values that correspond to perfect 15/15/15 stats are:
- Level 30 (wild CP maximum) – 710 CP
- Level 35 (weather boosted CP maximum) – 769 CP
Poliwag’s wild CP is aligned with your current Trainer Level until you hit Level 30. Most players are above this level, so these values are used for simplicity. If you’re below Level 30, the values will differ.
Perfect IV stats in Pokémon Go depend on your intended use for the Pokémon. For competitive play in the Master League or raids, you want exclusively 15/15/15 stats. However, for Great League and Ultra League, the focus shifts to obtaining the highest level without exceeding the CP cap (1500 for Great League and 2500 for Ultra League). This means lower attack and higher defense stats are preferable for these leagues.
If you aim to use Poliwrath or Politoed in Great League or Ultra League, consider the following perfect IV stats:
- A perfect Great League Poliwrath is 0/14/15, reaching 149 CP at Level 22.0
- A perfect Great League Politoed is 0/15/11, reaching 1500 CP at Level 23.5
- A perfect Ultra League Poliwrath is 0/14/14, reaching 2499 CP at Level 44.0
- A perfect Ultra League Politoed is 0/14/14, reaching 2498 CP at Level 48.5
Poliwag Evolution Chart: What Does Poliwag Evolve Into?
Poliwag evolves into Poliwhirl with 25 Poliwag Candy. Poliwhirl has two further evolutions—Poliwrath and Politoed—each requiring an additional 100 Candy. However, Politoed also needs a Kings Rock.
Poliwag’s evolution path is fascinating. Upon evolving, Poliwag develops arms, and the swirl on its stomach changes direction, symbolizing its transformation from tadpole to frog. Poliwrath is essentially a larger, more aggressive version of Poliwhirl, gaining Fighting as a secondary type.
Politoed, as its name suggests, features multiple toes and resembles a true frog, distinguishing it from the other three, which are primarily tadpole Pokémon.
Poliwrath Moves and Best Moveset Recommendation
Poliwrath and Politoed are both viable in the Go Battle League, but Poliwrath stands out as the stronger option. The best moveset for Poliwrath is Counter (Legacy Fast), Scald (Charged), and Icy Wind (Charged). In Great League, this setup allows Poliwrath to defeat Registeel, Galarian Stunfisk, Skarmory, Whiscash, and Lickitung, while it struggles against Talonflame, Annihilape, Azumarill, Lanturn, and Dragonair.
In Ultra League, Poliwrath excels, defeating Greninja, Cobalion, Steelix, Swampert, and Talonflame, but it can lose to Cresselia, Tapu Fini, Jellicent, Giratina Altered, and Virizion.
In the Master League, Poliwrath is less effective unless paired with strong Pokémon or utilizing double Ice moves.
Politoed Moves and Best Moveset Recommendation
Prior to Poliwag Community Day in 2023, Politoed was the more popular choice. However, with Poliwrath’s recent enhancements, Politoed has taken a backseat in competitive play.
For Politoed, the recommended moveset includes Mud Shot (Fast), Weather Ball (Water, Charged), and Earthquake (Legacy, Charged) in the Great League. In Ultra League, consider swapping both Charged moves for Surf and Blizzard.
These combinations enable Politoed to defeat Galarian Stunfisk, Lanturn, Annihilape, Azumarill, and Talonflame in the Great League, while facing challenges against Whiscash, Charjabug, Dragonair, Lickitung, and Skarmory.
In the Ultra League, Politoed can triumph over Talonflame, Charizard, Swampert, Steelix, and Cobalion, but it will struggle against Virizion, Poliwrath, Jellicent, Cresselia, and Giratina Altered.
Master League is not recommended for Politoed.
What Do Shiny Poliwag, Poliwhirl, Poliwrath, and Politoed Look Like?
All members of the Poliwag family have their shiny forms available in Pokémon Go. To encounter a shiny Pokémon, you can either catch a wild Pokémon or earn encounters through activities like raids. Shiny Pokémon are easily recognized by their unique coloring, sparkles upon encounter, and a shiny icon next to their name.
Shiny Poliwag and Poliwhirl simply swap blue for light blue, while Poliwrath changes from blue to green, giving it a more frog-like appearance. Politoed offers the most striking shiny transformation, trading its greens for blues and its yellows for a pinkish-purple hue.
Other Tips for This Spotlight Hour
Besides attempting to catch a perfect shiny Poliwag, there are various reasons to participate in this week’s Spotlight Hour. One significant incentive is the double catch XP bonus available throughout the hour. Focus on achieving Excellent Throws to maximize this bonus. It’s also advisable to wait until the Spotlight Hour begins before catching your first Pokémon of the day to earn extra XP.
This bonus can be stacked with a Lucky Egg, doubling the XP gained from all activities in Pokémon Go.
For newcomers, this Spotlight Hour is an excellent opportunity to collect Candy for the different Spotlight Pokémon and expand your Pokédex with their evolutions.
As Poliwag is a Water-type, catching numerous Poliwag during this hour will contribute to your catch bonus medal progress.
Keep in mind that Spotlight Hour events last for only an hour, from 6 PM to 7 PM (local time). Next week, expect a calmer Spotlight Hour featuring Hoppip with a Double Catch Candy bonus.
Good luck finding a perfect Poliwag!
