Tricks, tips and secrets you need to know about Core Keeper before starting to play
If you’re considering giving Core Keeper a try, whether solo or with friends, this guide provides several useful tricks and tips to keep in mind, especially during the first few hours of gameplay, when you might feel a bit lost. Given the variety of options available as you progress, it’s essential to start on the right foot.
Beginner’s Guide to Core Keeper
Collect All Materials You Find
During the early hours of gameplay, this advice is the most important you will receive. You will need a variety of materials to build your base, tools, and workbenches. Therefore, it’s highly recommended to collect everything you see for future use. If you find that something becomes unnecessary later, you can always discard or sell it.
Watch Out for Portals!
Traveling on foot can become tedious, especially with a huge map filled with biomes and dungeons. Throughout your journey, you will encounter various portals on the ground that indicate the presence of a boss nearby. The important thing to note is that you can break these portals and transport them to your desired location using a pickaxe, allowing you to place them in specific areas you choose. It’s surprising how many players, including myself, discovered this mechanic only after completing the game!
Place Waypoints on the Map
At some point in your adventure, you will want to mark areas on the map, whether it’s for setting up a mineral factory or finding a dungeon. You can place waypoints on the map, located in the bottom left corner when the map is open. Simply select the icon and click the mouse wheel where you want to place it.
To remove a waypoint, use the same mechanic.
Level Up Your Skills and Equipment
As mentioned at the beginning, Core Keeper has numerous features that you can leverage, such as your character skills. You can unlock these as you level up specific skill trees. Additionally, you can enhance your weapons, tools, and armor using the upgrade bench.
Keep in mind that leveling up any skill to the maximum can take a lot of time, which is not advisable during the early stages of the game. Instead, focus on gradually leveling up all skills.
Your Pet Also Has Skills
Another mechanic that many players, including myself, didn’t realize until much later is that just like players, pets also have a skill tree. You can unlock these skills with points, but your pet only has nine to choose from. You can find this menu by opening the inventory and clicking the downward arrow.
Sell Everything You Don’t Need
Don’t clutter your chests with items you won’t need in the future! This mistake is common during the first few hours of gameplay until you get the hang of it. Remember, important items are always marked in purple, so those are the ones you want to keep.
Items marked in gray labeled as “Valuable” are not useful at all, and you can sell them for a good price. So never hesitate to sell those!
