Starting the Automaton Engineer Dampé Quest

To begin the ‘Automaton Engineer Dampé’ side quest, head along the northeastern road above Hyrule Ranch in Hyrule Field. Here, you will encounter Dampé engaged in a heated discussion with a crow that has stolen a key from him.

Dampé will only appear after you have completed the Hyrule Castle dungeon, so if you do not see him initially, continue progressing through the main story until you reach this point.

Automaton Engineer Dampé Walkthrough

Your first task is to defeat the crow that has stolen Dampé’s clockwork key. You can use various Echoes to accomplish this, but using the Ignizol Echo to burn the crow is an effective strategy.

After defeating the crow, travel to Dampé’s studio located in the northern Eastern Hyrule Field area, near Hebra Mountain. It’s conveniently situated next to a Warp point, making it easy to access.

Upon entering his studio, Dampé will provide you with five Twisted Pumpkins, which can be used to create Smoothies. He will then explain how Automatons function. To inspire Dampé and receive your first Automaton, you need to present two specific Echoes on the grey pedestal within the studio.

Dampé will ask you to show him a creature with a large eye that jumps around and another that emits hot smoke from its backside. The correct Echoes for this quest are:

• Tektite
• Mothula

You can find your first Tektite in Hyrule Field, just north of Hyrule Ranch. As for Mothula, you will encounter one in the Gerudo Sanctum during the ‘A Rift in Gerudo Desert’ main story quest.

Once you have presented these two Echoes to Dampé, he will begin constructing your very first Automaton!

Rewards for Completing Automaton Engineer Dampé

Upon completing the ‘Automaton Engineer Dampé’ quest, you will receive the Tektite Automaton, which is capable of jumping and attacking nearby monsters. Additionally, Dampé will give you a clockwork key that is essential for winding up and activating any Automaton.
