Completing the ‘Runaway Horse’ side quest is essential if you want to enjoy horse riding in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. Failing to finish this quest means you’ll be relying on Echo or your own two feet for an extended period.

Fortunately, you can embark on the ‘Runaway Horse’ side quest early in your Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom journey. However, you must know where to find the runaway horse to assist Hyrule Ranch.

How to Start the Runaway Horse Quest

To initiate the ‘Runaway Horse’ side quest in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, head to Hyrule Ranch. This ranch is located in Hyrule Field, to the south-west of Hyrule Castle Town. To begin the quest, speak with the man positioned to the left of the farmhouse.

You can reach Hyrule Ranch early in the game after completing the Suthorn Ruins. Simply navigate north through Suthorn Prairie and then head west once you enter Hyrule Field until you arrive at the ranch. Don’t forget to utilize the Stamp Rally Stand while you’re there!

Finding the Runaway Horse

The ‘Runaway Horse’ side quest begins when the elderly man explains that the ranch is unable to lend out any horses because one has escaped. He will request your help in returning the horse if you happen to spot it. While you can still ride horses around the ranch, you should hurry to locate the runaway horse.

The runaway horse is situated at a lake west of Hyrule Ranch. The good news is that the lake is not far from the ranch; simply walk south-west to find it. However, the horse has gotten itself trapped on a small island in the middle of the lake.

To retrieve the horse, place a Trampoline Echo on one of the lower levels of the island and use Bind on the horse. After doing so, bounce back to the mainland using the Trampoline.

With the horse rescued, mount it and ride back to Hyrule Ranch. Be sure to return it to the man who assigned you the ‘Runaway Horse’ quest to receive your rewards.

Rewards for Completing the Runaway Horse Quest

Upon completing the ‘Runaway Horse’ side quest in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, you unlock the ability to rent a horse for free from Hyrule Ranch.

This means you can ride any horse available at the ranch throughout Hyrule, except for the white horse. To ride that specific horse, you’ll need to finish the ‘Impa’s Gift‘ side quest.

Keep in mind that rental horses cannot be called to your location. Instead, you will need to either return to Hyrule Ranch for another horse or go back to where you left the previous one. Despite this limitation, rental horses are ideal for quickly traversing Hyrule and jumping over small gaps.
